I’ve been really enjoying some recent forays into light painting – I’m no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but it is fun to get outside and actually INTERACT with my own images. Light painting is great because I get to be in my own images, without actually being IN them. Perfect for someone like me, who prefers to be behind the lens rather than in front of it!
In March I posted about my first light painting trial, which was also combined with a little draining. I was really pleased with the results, so I was looking forward to my next outing which happened last Saturday night. As part of the Melbourne Photography Workshops group, we headed to Birrarung Marr in Melbourne and took advantage of the many and varied features and lighting conditions!
Results were varied – it’s quite bright location by light painting standards, but that is part of the challenge. I think my results were OK, but I have more ideas to try out and another session will definitely be required! The beach perhaps, there’s a pier I’d like to visit… But I digress, I also happened across a light painting music video, shot at a location I’ve used myself a number of times before (mostly in the “Nudes” gallery) – check out the video for “Rippled” by All India Radio, shot at the Brunswick Brickworks. The song’s pretty cool and the vid is excellent!!
