It’s been over 6 months since my last post, clearly it has been a tiny bit busy! Sooo much has happened, I’m not even going to try and encapsulate everything in this one little post! In an effort to avoid another long rambling post, here’s the quick summary:
- Did quite a few shoots (portfolio has some updates, more on the way!)
- Started and continued working extensively with the AIPP, specifically around workshops and partner/sponsorship options (and lots of exciting things have happened, with more updates due soon!)
- Lots of commercial shoots through the studio, met lots of really interesting people along the way
- Ran some workshops, including another great high speed event at the shooting range
- Watched Melbourne Photography Workshops grow to over 850 members in Victoria! Great crowd of active and interested photographers, awesome!
- Had my first child (a girl, Emily) and have discovered a whole new challenge with managing my time and priorities!
What’s coming next? Am I going to slow down?? BWAHAHAHAHAHA, right… 2013 has some of these challenges in store:
- Shortly launching two new sites – ShutterClass is about to get a whole new workshop portal, to help with workshops in general – running them, helping other photographers run them, all the good stuff! And another site, also to help creative artists, should go live this month if I can get a day spare to move it onto the live server! More on that next month
- I’m currently attending the amazing Summer Film School, it’s been brilliant and I’ve met lots of very talented people. This year is the year of cinematography for me – there’s been more demand for it in workshops, and it’s a space I’m keen to spend more time in. I’ve also learnt that all the tech skills I’ve developed for still photography do translate quite well into cinematography, but not necessarily the broader skillsets (like directing – wow! Not for me, and massive respect to people who can create brilliance in that pressure cooker!). Film school has taught me one very clear lesson – owning a DSLR does not a filmmaker make!
- Run more workshops, it’s something I love doing and I don’t do it enough. And future workshops will be filmed, with a view to releasing the content to a wider audience!
- Get involved in a film project for reals (reels?), I’m keen to turn some of this photography knowledge of lighting and tech gear into a whole stack of still images (that are presented at 25 per second, with a compelling narrative and some killer cinematography!).
- Oh yeah, there’s raising a child in there as well, should keep me occupied!
- End of mini ramble, it’s going to be an exciting year – and of course, always keen to meet new creatives and talented folk – I might be able to assist you with your projects, or point you towards some other great people I’ve met along the way.
