Wow, it’s been over a month since I last updated, sorry about that! As always, it’s a hectic world we live in, and I will admit that running a studio is quite a bit of work! But it’s such ENJOYABLE work – I’ve already met heaps of awesome people, assisted on some amazing creative shoots, and generally had a great time of it!! Running a studio is not cheap though, unfortunately, which means I’ve also had to turn away shoots that were probably going to be amazing but didn’t have a budget. I’m thinking about opening the studio to TFP projects once or twice a month, to give awesome projects a chance to shoot in a great space for a day, for FREE!! I’ll think about it some more… feedback welcome! Read on for more…
On other things, I have a heap of projects I need to get done – it’s about time I got back shooting again! Quite a few need to be outside though, which is not going to be great for the models. In case anyone failed to notice, it’s been COLD lately – not just “slightly brisk, a little chilly” kind of cold, but the full-on “I think my feet have frozen and fallen off” kind of cold! So putting models out in that for any length of time (particularly nudes) breaks one of my main rules – always look after the models!! *sigh* I always seem to be ready to go on my projects at the worst time of the year!!
One way I plan to solve this issue is to flip my project schedules on their head – instead of not shooting until every duck is lined up, I think I will create a project/casting page here on my site – that way, I can get the ducks lined up sooner and do the shoots sooner as well! Of course, it assumes people actually visit this site, I suspect the theory will prove itself out soon enough!!
Finally, I’ll conclude this little mini-update by pointing out (yet again) that Chase Jarvis is awesome. Yet he continues to scare me with his all encompassing scary statements – and this one is no exception! “How to blow your career in photography” – eh, what?
He lists off 16 things that are “sure fire ways to blow your career in photography”, and includes things like assisting other photographers, getting a studio, teaching workshops and doing a book – yes, you guessed it, that list contains a bunch of stuff I have done already, and most of the rest I actually aspire to do!! Dammit Chase, you’re killing me here!!
He does make an interesting point though – old ideas are not the path to success, not when there are so many people already doing the old ideas… food for thought, for sure!!
